Immune modulation by ancient viruses
Dr. Maria Tokuyama is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of British Columbia and a Michael Smith Health Research Scholar. Her research aims to understand how endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) modulate the immune system and in turn influence outcomes of disease. Dr. Tokuyama’s lab uses multidisciplinary approaches, including tools in virology, immunology, and bioinformatics to uncover novel functions of ERVs in immunity in the context of viral infection and autoimmune disease.
