Lisa Osborne

Into the ‘multibiome’

Dr. Lisa Osborne is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on understanding how the diverse microbes residing in the gut – including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and worms, interact with the host immune system to maintain health. Dr. Osborne’s lab explores how the ‘multibiome’ can illuminate the role of microbial dysregulation in chronic inflammatory diseases and identify potential ways to manipulate these microbes or their products to restore homeostasis. This research has the potential to open new avenues for therapeutic interventions, such as enhancing immunity through vaccination or modulating autoimmune inflammation in conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or multiple sclerosis (MS).
